What we are here to do

Practical help for people in genuine need, mostly in South Africa.

Freely Give Hope is being established as an Australian charity to relieve hardship, sickness and distress. We pay for treatment, put food and essentials into homes, and support children's homes that are doing the work properly. The help goes where the need is, and it is given on need alone.

Medical and hospital relief

Treatment, medication, transport to care and hospital costs for patients who cannot pay. Paid directly to the clinic or hospital against an invoice, wherever possible.

Hardship and family assistance

Food, hygiene products, essential clothing and emergency help for families in crisis. Time-limited and documented, so it reaches the next family too.

Children's homes and child welfare

School materials, nutritious food, bedding, hygiene supplies and safe equipment for vetted children's homes, with safeguarding commitments and proof of delivery.

Partners on the ground

Doctors identify treatment needs. Churches and community organisations identify families and coordinate distribution. Every partner is screened, and the Australian board decides each grant.

Help is based on need. Our work is inspired by Christian faith. Receiving help is never conditional on religion, church attendance, conversion or taking part in any religious activity.

How a grant actually happens

Every dollar follows the same path, and leaves a record.

  1. A referral arrivesFrom a partner doctor, church or community organisation, on a standard form. Nothing is promised at intake.
  2. Need is verifiedHardship or medical need, identity proportionate to the risk, and what other support exists. Medical invoices and budgets are checked by an independent reviewer.
  3. Conflicts are declaredAnyone connected to the beneficiary or the partner steps out of the decision.
  4. The board approvesWithin written limits, with written conditions. No individual can promise a grant alone.
  5. Payment goes to the providerTo the verified hospital, supplier or clinic, by bank transfer, with two separate authorisations. No undocumented cash.
  6. Evidence comes backItemised receipts, proof of delivery and an outcome report close the grant. Anonymised results go into our public reporting.
Partner screeningLegal identity, office-bearers, banking proof, references, sanctions checks and safeguarding capacity before a single transfer.
Child safeguardingWritten code, background checks where the law allows, and an incident process. No identifying images of children are published.
Stop powersThe board can withhold, suspend or recover funds from any partner where controls fall short.
Australian oversight standardsOverseas work is run to the ACNC External Conduct Standards and Australian sanctions law, however small the grant.
Why this exists

It started with one life.

[Founder's story, in his own words. Two or three short paragraphs: what happened, what was received, and why the response was to give the same way. Keep names and medical detail to what you are comfortable publishing.]

The foundation is the answer to a simple question: what does it look like to give back the way help was given to us? Freely, to people who cannot repay it, and without asking anything of them first.

How we are set up

Built to be accountable before it is built to be big.

The Foundation is a separate legal entity. It does not own, and is not owned by, any business. No director or member receives any share of its income.
